EABIS To Play Global Role In Major UN Initiative

We are very pleased to share with you some positive news regarding EABIS’ active engagement with a major UN Global Compact initiative.

A Global Collaboration to Shape Future Generations of Leaders
On July 5, at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, the EABIS network was invited to join a distinguished group to lead the implementation phase of the UNGC Principles for Responsible Management Education.

Modelled on the original UNGC Principles for Business, these call for business schools and universities worldwide to build corporate responsibility issues into their Purpose, Values, Method, Research, Partnerships and Dialogue. Click here to read them in full.

Highlighting their relevance in his closing remarks on 6 July, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon commented: “The Principles […] have the capacity to take the case for universal values and business into classrooms on every continent”.

World’s Major Management Development Institutions to Drive Progress Together
This high-level initiative will look to shape a new global agenda on corporate responsibility and management development. The role will mean EABIS working closely alongside 5 of the world’s most influential organisations to design and implement further consultations and the roll-out process:

  • Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB)
  • European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD)
  • Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative (GRLI)
  • Aspen Institute Business in Society Program
  • Net Impact First Steps:

An Unveiling in Barcelona
As a first tangible step, EABIS will organise the European launch of the Principles on the eve of the Annual Colloquium (September 19, ESADE Business School). This official unveiling will take place with the close support of the UN Global Compact team and senior representatives from the group of co-convening organizations. We cordially invite all of you to join us!

Executive Director Peter Lacy – one of the formal presenters of the Principles to Ban Ki-Moon – noted: “The launch of the UN Principles represents a unique moment for management education globally and a chance to build a platform for responsible and sustainable future leaders in developed, emerging and developing countries. EABIS is proud to have been recognised for our work by the UN by being included in this founding group, alongside the world's top institutions, and we look forward to working with and engaging the network’s members in the next phase”.
